Message from the Chair

Welcome, AWHONN members and prospective members!

This past year was a busy one for NH AWHONN.  In addition to our classic conferences--S.T.A.B.L.E., Post-Anesthesia Care of the Cesarean Birth Patient, Basic Fetal Monitoring, and Labor Support for the Patient and for the Nurse--we had Lisa Miller, CNM, JD, and Dr. David Miller back to present on Fetal Monitoring in October. This was our third time having these very popular speakers come to New Hampshire, us, and it was our most successful conference with more than 220 participants.

The NH AWHONN coordinating team meets every other month to address issues that affect us as nurses and our patients, as well as to plan all of our educational offerings.  The group is composed of staff nurses, managers, directors and educators from around the state who volunteer their time.  Even with this wide representation, however, we are always interested in input from our members. Please send us your thoughts and ideas any time.  We can be reached at www.nhawhonn.org.

If you are not yet an AWHONN member, we would like to invite you to join.  Among other benefits, you will receive two professional publications, the Journal of Obstetric & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN) and Nursing for Women’s Health, that provide up-to-date information on topics that affect your nursing practice.  AWHONN will also help to keep you connected to others in your profession as well as to our more than 240 New Hampshire members.  For less than the price of one latte a week, you could join this amazing and powerful group of professional nurses.

As the NH AWHONN Chair, I would like to thank you for your dedication to the women, newborns, and families of our state and beyond.  I welcome you to become involved as we continue to build our professional organization and its future leaders.

For more information on joining AWHONN, please send us an email through the Contact Us section of our webpage.  Membership Coordinator Ann Hebert is always happy to communicate with colleagues.

Sincerely,

Martha Leighton, MS, RNC-OB
